"Michelle,

"It breaks my heart to know that our son's stories sound almost identical and that we have finally found a solution for our son but had no idea what you all were going through.

"Our son started with allergy testing when he was I believe around 18 months old. He had a milk allergy as well as other food allergies. He was even allergic to the icing on his 1st b-day cake! Poor little guy broke out with a rash all over his face. In addition to the food allergies, and eczema, he also suffered from ongoing ear infections, which ended up affecting his speech as well.

"When he was 3 1/2 he started pre-school a couple days a week and went through a hearing assessment test. To my astonishment, when I received the results 3 months later he had failed his hearing test. This spawned quite a concern with me and I started looking into when he had suffered from his last ear infection. Not surprising to me it was during the time that he had been tested.

"Because we had been to his Allergist, ENT, and Pediatrician numerous times in the last year, I called my Pharmacist to get a print out of all the medications they had prescribed for him over the course of that year. I just about flipped when I looked at the report; he had been on an antibiotic every 2-3 months the entire last year!

"In addition to not clearing up his issues, the ENT wanted to put tubes in his ears, and we were now waiting on an appointment to get his hearing tested at Vanderbilt. Amazingly, when he was tested at Vanderbilt a few months later, his hearing was perfect, his ear infection had cleared up and his hearing was fine. Vanderbilt did not recommend tubes for his ears.

"We were now left with the decision of how to manage the ongoing sinus/ear infections and now a speech problem as well. I encouraged my husband to do research to find an alternative solution to ear tubes, antibiotics, and other medications. Amazingly he found the Nasal Irrigation System!

"Although the machine is recommended for children five and older, my son was very willing to give it a try. He was around 4 and a half at the time, and what a difference it made! He was able to get relief every time he was having sinus issues, and was stopped up. Don't get me wrong, it takes dedication, sometimes we have to do it twice a day depending on how congested he is, but the payoff has been outstanding!

"To my knowledge he has not suffered from an ear infection since we started irrigating, he has not had to take an antibiotic, for sinus/allergy related issues (I say this because I believe the only antibiotic he has had to take was for Strep Throat) in the last 2 1/2 years. He has continued to take his nasal steroid and Claritin which has been much more effective since we began irrigating.

"About four weeks ago, we had to take him off the Claritin so we could get him tested for cat allergies, (My Aunt got a cat and we suspected he was allergic based on his reaction the two times he has visited since she got the cat--Yes he too is allergic). So I figured we would stop both the Claritin and nasal steroid for a few weeks to see what happened. By continuing to irrigate when he is congested or has drainage, we have been able to control his sinus/allergy issues with the Nasal Irrigation System; for the 1st time in years, he is off all daily medications!!!

"Because of my son not being able to hear correctly due to the ear infections and sinus drainage he will have to continue speech therapy as well. With age, added vocabulary, and practice he has improved his speech by leaps and bounds!
